Today, materials research company Yulex LLC announced the launch of a new high-performance natural rubber material: YULEX2.0. The new material is the result of years of research and development to develop an alternative to neoprene that offers a high level of elasticity. The product has applications in a range of products including wetsuits, sportswear, sports equipment, sports medicine, accessories and footwear.
Yulex founder Jeff Martin said: “We saw a great opportunity to improve the performance properties of our Yulex natural rubber, and YULEX2.0 offers greater elasticity and stretchability. Our new supply chains provide full access to our new YULEX2.0 foams.”
YULEX2.0 is used by numerous surf and watersports brands around the world. Project Blank, a surf company from Australia, was one of the first adopters of YULEX2.0 and has received positive feedback from retailers and surfers on the performance characteristics of the new material. Mitch Avakian, founder of Project Blank, said: “Working with Yulex, we are committed to transitioning our wetsuit production from limestone neoprene to a renewable alternative. We believe the current Yulex construction is comparable in performance and warmer than traditional wetsuits, making them a thing of the past.”
YULASTIC SPANDEX REPLACEMENT WILL BE LAUNCHED IN FALL 2024
In addition to YULEX2.0, the company is in the final stages of launching YULASTIC, a new material that will initially replace spandex in stretch denim, elastics and socks. As Yulex CEO Liz Bui explains, “The company’s focus for the past 8 years has been replacing neoprene with Yulex natural rubber. Then we saw the need for a replacement for spandex and are now excited to launch our YULASTIC® filaments later this year.”
YULASTIC is being tested by some of the world’s leading brands and will be on the market by the end of 2024.
