Haraz Coffee House, a Yemeni coffeehouse franchise, is coming to Milwaukee’s east side.

Franchise co-owner Hasan Abuasi hopes to open the cafe at 2900 N. Oakland Ave. in the first months of 2025.

Haraz Coffee House has 15 opened locations and 126 locations under development nationwide.

Abuasi said he hopes to make the cafe a gathering place for the community, rather than just a place to grab a quick coffee and leave.

“We’re trying to add as many seats as possible,” Abuasi said. “That encourages people to stay.”

The 157 square meter store will be located in the apartment complex “The Eastsider”.

The menu features coffee made exclusively from beans from Yemen. The drinks are named after the region where the beans come from.

“A lot of coffee shops end up selling a specific coffee. A lot of it is repetitive and the same,” Abuasi said. “At this (coffee shop), there is a lot of variety. … You’ll find that it’s not just as basic as dark roast coffee or Americano. There are a lot of different unique flavors.”

Abuasi, a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, said he was inspired to open the cafe when he saw people of all backgrounds flocking to Yemeni cafes Qmaria and Qahwah House, and he wanted to bring something similar to Milwaukee.
