Govee, the maker of some of the best smart lights you can buy, has launched a new set of permanent outdoor lights that will illuminate your home all year round and easily add some fun to special occasions.
When we tested Govee’s Christmas string lights last year, we were particularly impressed with their response to app control and voice commands, as well as their bright and vibrant colors, so we have high expectations for this new outdoor system.
The Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights 2 cost the same as the company’s first-generation lights, but they come with improved brightness and additional features. They work with Google Home and Alexa, and are now Matter compatible too, giving you more flexibility in how you set up your smart home (check out our complete guide to Matter for more info).
There are over 100 preset effects to choose from and the lights can be synced to music for house parties. You can even use voice commands to set custom patterns, like “Give me a Barbie light effect” for something pink and sassy.
Install and forget
One of the biggest benefits of smart outdoor lights is that you don’t have to climb ladders to change your lights for Christmas and Halloween. Choose white or black wires and light housings to match the outside of your home, then install them one time with the included 3M adhesive pads and clips. Once the lights are in place, you can change the colors remotely without having to touch them.
The Permanent Outdoor Lights 2 are weather resistant and, according to Govee, will work perfectly in temperatures ranging from -20°C to 60°C. They are IP67 rated, ensuring high levels of water and dirt resistance (see our guide to IP ratings for more information). They are made from UV-resistant materials to resist deterioration from exposure to sunlight.
They’re available now from Amazon and direct from Govee, with prices starting at $179.99 (around £140 / AU$270) for a 50ft / 15m string of lights.
