Windy start to the week in Arizona, big cooling ahead

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Showers and thunderstorms continue across Eastern Arizona this morning. The Valley is dry and calm, but a few sudden showers are possible this morning and around noon and into the afternoon hours.

Highs of 38.3 degrees are expected in Phoenix today.

Increased winds are expected across Arizona today as a low pressure system moves north. Winds between 15 and 25 mph are expected in the valleys, while stronger winds with gusts up to 50 mph are expected in the higher elevations of northern Arizona, where a wind advisory is in effect from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today.

With the low moving out of our region, drier and cooler conditions are expected for the remainder of the work week. High temperatures in the Valley are expected to drop to the mid-90s on Tuesday for the first time since May. Overnight lows will also drop to the 60s, with outlying areas potentially reaching the upper 50s by the end of the week.

A return to near-normal temperatures is expected over the weekend, with sunshine and highs of around 35 degrees on Saturday and around 39 degrees on Sunday.
