How to watch

Watch the Season 10 Premiere Chicago Med on Wednesday, September 25, at 8/7c on NBC.

In an interview with NBC Insiders, Veteran actor Oliver Platt (Dr. Charles) revealed that the first episode begins with a mass casualty incident that requires everyone to pitch in. And some of the doctors rushing to help are new characters that fans aren’t familiar with yet.

“We have two wonderful new cast members, Darren Barnet (as Dr. Frost) and Sarah Ramos (as Dr. Caitlin Lenox)…”, said Platt NBC Insider“There are a lot of sparks flying. As an actor, it’s just incredibly exciting and fun to watch.”

He continued, “We work with these extraordinary crews from Chicago, and it’s such a cliche, but we’ve been doing this for 10 years now. This is a significant part of my life, right? We’re so lucky that they all want to come back. They all come back and that just means so much to us. It’s like there’s a family reunion at the beginning of every season, which just adds to this overwhelming feeling of gratitude.”

Showrunner Allen Macdonald speaks Chicago Med Season 10

In case you forgot what happened last season, here’s a refresher: After Liliana’s (Alet Taylor) brother accused Ripley of nearly beating him to death in the finale, Med Fans were left confused and waiting for answers. How are Hannah Asher (Jessy Schram) and Mitch Ripley (Luke Mitchell) doing in light of the shocking allegations? Will Dr. Charles and his girlfriend Liliana stick together during the chaos? What Strictly speaking happened?

NBC Insider spoke with Chicago Med’s new showrunner, Allen Macdonald, on what to expect. Read below:

NBC Insider: What can fans expect from season 10? Chicago Med?

Allen Macdonald: The season premiere is about a mass casualty incident. A commuter ship crashes and capsizes on Lake Michigan near Navy Pier. And most of those patients are taken to Gaffney. So as we begin the first episode of season 10 and the season premiere, we’re all in.

Overall, I think we can give (viewers) a lot of entertaining drama this season. And a lot of surprises, a lot of drama. I would say if there was one major theme for season 10, it would be family and also a little bit of battling loneliness, which we see this season particularly in Dr. Charles’ storyline. One of my main goals for this season, since I came on the show for season 10, is to really embrace the ED – and all of our characters in it – as a family… We’re really going to focus on them as a family unit, but like any family, there are a lot of dysfunctional dynamics at play.

Dr. Mitch Ripley (Luke Mitchell) has been accused of assaulting Pawel, the brother of Dr. Charles’ girlfriend. What happens next in this story?

(The Season 10 premiere) All revolve around Pawel Wapniarski (Kristof Konrad), Liliana’s brother. The big question is: what role did Ripley play in the attack on Pawel in the season finale last year? If he played a role at all. And then there’s the question – since Liliana is Pawel’s sister and usually defends him – how will this affect her relationship with Charles going forward? And both questions are answered in one way or another in the season premiere.

Where will Dr. Hannah Asher’s journey take her in season 10?

Hannah’s journey this season is about connecting with people. Connecting better with her own family, that’s something we’ll get into at the end of the season, but it’s something we’re working toward. I also think her past as an addict will come up again this season, especially in the first half. And that doesn’t mean she falls back into a drug hole or anything like that, because I’ll tell you right now, that’s not what we’re doing.

But we’re going to find that staying clean is harder for her than you’d think just by looking at her. Hannah is always very fired up when we see her and always does her job very well. She’s endlessly patient with her patients and her colleagues – although her patience is a little worn out in the season premiere with Ripley. But that comes at a cost, because there’s a lot of stress and anxiety in her life. And, you know, the easiest way to deal with that stress and anxiety is to take drugs. And so we’re going to find that there are moments of temptation for her.

Darren Barnet joins the One Chicago family this season as Dr. Frost. What can you tell fans about this new character?

Dr. Frost is a pediatrician. In the first episode, we learn that a local hospital is closing within a week. This is going to be a huge burden for Gaffney because Gaffney has to deal with the overload of the closed hospital. And when we first meet Dr. John Frost, he comes in with a little girl who may have neurological problems and he needs to do an MRI. And he can’t do that at his hospital because they already sold their MRI in advance of the closure.

But when Dr. Frost comes by, a mass accident has just happened… So it’s quite busy, and Frost has to persuade Maggie (Marlyne Barrett), the first person he meets, to help him with the MRI scan. Dr. Frost is very charming. He’s very good-looking. He knows both and isn’t averse to using it to his advantage. But unfortunately, the first person he meets is Maggie, and she’ll see right through that and examine him very quickly.

Sarah Ramos is also on board as Dr. Caitlin Lenox. What new dynamic will she bring to the hospital?

Dr. Lenox is not a cuddly teddy bear at all. She is a former soldier like Archer (Steven Weber), which is something that should really connect the two of them, but it actually irritates them both a little… Archer is not at all happy about Lenox’s arrival and she really gets on his and the whole ED’s nerves because she says exactly what she thinks. She doesn’t shy away from fights. She is simply one of those characters who will act as an antagonist in our ED.

But the thing is, I say all these things, but Lenox is a very compassionate doctor at heart. However, she doesn’t believe in getting to know the patients particularly well. She believes in being honest and kind to them. However, she believes that if you spend too much time coddling the patient, it slows the train down and that the next patient will pay for spending that extra time with the patient. And her goal is not so much to save money, but to make sure everyone gets treated.

Season 9 was a melting pot for some compelling love stories. Hannah, Sharon and Maggie all experienced new love stories in the hospital. Where do you think these love stories will go from here?

There’s a month-long time jump (during the season 10 premiere). We’re also catching up a bit with our characters and their love stories as this hour goes by, and we’ll find out very quickly that there’s an icy coldness between Hannah and Ripley. Ripley never revealed to Hannah what he had to do with the Pawel attack, if anything. But he doesn’t answer the question, and that doesn’t sit well with Hannah because she believes you have to have complete transparency and honesty in a relationship, and because he doesn’t offer her that, things are kind of on hold. They take a break.

We’ll also get into the relationships between Dr. Charles and Liliana, and in the following episodes we’ll also get into the relationship between Loren (Henderson Wade) and Maggie, which I can tell you is still very good. Also the relationship between Dennis (John Earl Jelks) and Goodwin is still very good.

What three words would you say to describe the season 10 premiere?

Exciting. Emotional. Chaotic.
