The Kansas football team is once again on neutral ground to face UNLV in a Big 12-Mountain West showdown.
This time, however, there is no chance of winning a trophy in this game and it will be considered a home game.

The Jayhawks (1-1) travel to Kansas City, Kansas on Friday to face the Rebels (2-0) in their second game of the season at Children’s Mercy Park as David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium is currently undergoing renovations.
This is the first time since last year’s Guaranteed Rate Bowl in Phoenix, when the Jayhawks pulled away with a 49-36 victory over the Rebels. Kansas will also be looking to get back on track after losing Week 2 to Illinois, a surprise defeat that dropped the Jayhawks from both the US LBM Coaches Poll and the AP Top 25 poll.

Kansas will play UNLV at Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kansas. Children’s Mercy Park is home to MLS affiliate Sporting Kansas City. According to its website, Children’s Mercy Park has a capacity of 18,467 for soccer games — that’s 28,533 less than the capacity of David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium on Kansas’ campus.
Why is the Kansas vs. UNLV game at Children’s Mercy Park?
While neutral-site games are becoming more common during the non-conference portion of the college football season, that’s not why the Jayhawks and Rebels will play Friday at Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City.
The reason for this is the ongoing construction and renovation work at the Gateway District and the David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium in Lawrence. Kansas announced this in January after the 2023 season.
“This plan for the 2024 season provides an incredible number of benefits to our student-athletes, our fans and supporters, our campus partners and the Kansas football program. While we are disappointed that we will not be able to play in Lawrence, ultimately we want to provide the best possible experience for everyone involved, and by playing two games at Children’s Mercy Park and four games at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, we can accomplish that,” Kansas athletic director Travis Goff said in a statement in January.
“It was exciting to see construction begin in earnest on the Gateway District and David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium in Lawrence. This decision allows construction to continue on the required schedule while preserving the overall project budget and the fan experience in 2024.”

How many games will the 2024 Kansas football team play at Children’s Mercy Park?
Friday’s nonconference game against UNLV will be the second and final game the Jayhawks will play at Children’s Mercy Park in 2024. Kansas previously played Lindenwood at Children’s Mercy Park in Week 0.
Kansas will play its four Big 12 home games at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, home of the Kansas City Chiefs.
