According to Deadline, the series ran into problems that led to two unsuccessful attempts by the cast to renegotiate their contracts. On the second and final attempt, the actors received additional compensation, known as bonuses. However, things didn’t seem to work out between the studio and McClain. She was also offered the bonus, but in the end she parted ways with the studio.
Recently, co-showrunner and executive producer Rashad Raisani spoke about McClain’s exit in an interview with ScreenRant. He explained:
“Yes, unfortunately she left before we got the cameras rolling. We had no access to her at all, no matter how hard we tried.”
While the showrunner did not reveal the exact reason for the actor’s exit, McClain has not yet explained her side of the story.
Will Sierra McClain’s Grace Ryder return to 9-1-1: Lone Star?
A return of Sierra McClain as Grace Ryder is unlikely since “9-1-1: Lone Star” ends with the fifth season.
According to the aforementioned Deadline report, the actors already assumed last year that the spin-off series would end with season 5. This led to drama surrounding the cast, which likely resulted in McClain’s exit. Recently, Fox TV Network President Michael Thorn confirmed the end of the show to the news channel. This further dashed hopes of the actor’s comeback in future episodes.
Although Sierra McClain has exited the series, the creators have not yet found a proper ending for her character. In Entertainment Weekly’s preview of season 5, Grace’s husband Judd wants to take a photo of his family for Grace while she does “God’s work.” This suggests that the couple is still together and only time will tell what lies ahead for Grace’s character.
