White Sox and Angels game expected to start at 7:45 a.m. after rain delay

The start of Tuesday night’s game between the White Sox and the Angels at Guaranteed Rate Field has been delayed until 7:45 p.m. due to a temporary rain shower.

On a night that could be historic for baseball, the Sox (36-120) are just one loss away from breaking the all-time losing record of the modern era.

Jonathan Cannon (4-10, 4.61 ERA) starts for the Sox, his opponent is Jack Kochanowicz of the Angels.

The game was originally scheduled for 6:40 p.m.

The Sox still have six games left – three at home against the Angels and three in Detroit.

“I obviously want to acknowledge the record we have right now,” General Manager Chris Getz said before the game. “It’s really important to thank our fans from the bottom of my heart for standing by us during this very difficult, painful season. They don’t deserve this. It’s been very exhausting for me personally. And for our staff and everyone in this organization.”

“Our fans definitely don’t deserve to have to go through this. They pay money to come to the games and watch the games. They want to watch the Chicago White Sox to experience something positive and we haven’t been able to deliver many positive results all season. It’s definitely my job now and the job of others to focus more on the future, learn from the past and start getting the White Sox where they should be for our fans and everyone who works here.”
