The leading candidates for the U.S. presidency have chosen their running mates and Americans will soon see them compete against each other in a vice presidential debate.

It will be the first time that Democratic candidate Kamala Harris’ vice president and running mate Tim Walz and former President and Republican candidate Donald Trump’s running mate JD Vance will face off, and it could also be the last debate between the two before the election.

When will the 2024 vice presidential debate take place?

The vice presidential debate is scheduled as Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Ohio Senator JD Vance prepare to take the stage. October 1 after both accepted an invitation from CBS News.

The broadcaster has not yet announced a broadcast date.

Who will moderate the vice presidential debate?

CBS Evening News anchor and editor-in-chief Norah O’Donnell and CBS News chief foreign affairs correspondent Margaret Brennan will host the show.

Important dates for the 2024 presidential elections

Voters across the U.S. will flock to the polls as early as next month when Pennsylvania begins early voting on September 16. Official Election Day is Tuesday, November 5.
