Missouri Supreme Court rejects request to stay Marcellus Williams’ execution

The Missouri Supreme Court has ordered the state to carry out tonight’s execution of Marcellus Williams for the 1998 stabbing death of Felicia Gayle.

A lawyer for Williams argued before the Missouri Supreme Court on Monday that a potential juror was excluded from Williams’ trial on racial grounds and that his execution on Tuesday should be stayed so the St. Louis County District Court can more closely examine the evidence.

The first day of “Noe vs. Parson” ends and the fight to save gender-equitable care for minors begins

Opening statements and testimony were given on Monday with the goal of repealing SB 49, a gender-affirming care ban for minors.

The bill, sponsored by Senator Mike Moon (R-Ash Grove), was signed into law by Governor Mike Parson in June 2023.

The American Civil Liberties Union of Missouri, Lambda Legal and Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner LLP filed suit in Cole County District Court in July 2023.

Deadline for applications for the Boone County Seniors Property Tax Relief Program has closed

The application deadline for Boone County’s Seniors Property Tax Relief Program is just over a week away, on October 1 at 5 p.m.

This is the first year of the program in Boone County and over 6,000 applications have already been processed.

Boone County residents who are 62 years of age or older are eligible if they own their residence and are liable for property taxes on the residence.

Teenager killed in car crash south of Hallsville

A teenager died in a crash in northern Boone County on Sunday. The accident occurred around 5 p.m. on Hecht Road.

The driver, a 17-year-old boy from Hallsville, died in the crash. A 15-year-old girl from Boonville was taken to a local hospital for treatment, and a 13-year-old girl from Hallsville suffered minor injuries.

Colombian man sentenced to 25 years in prison for fatal burglary in Mexico in 2020

Timothy Midgyett, 29, of Columbia, pleaded guilty Monday to the murder of Chance Davis in June 2020. He was sentenced to 25 years in prison.

According to the Audrain County District Attorney’s Office, Midgyett pleaded guilty to first-degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon resulting in death and first-degree burglary.
