CLEVELAND – First-round pick Tyler Guyton started as left tackle.
Cooper Beebe, a third-round pick, started at center, marking the first time he played that position in competition at any level.
The verdict:
“The best compliment you can give a freshman in their first start is when you don’t have to adjust anything for them,” said head coach Mike McCarthy. “We certainly didn’t have to deviate from our game plan, so I thought they did a good job right out of the first start.”
Guyton suffered a sack early on and was penalized later in the game, but he was up against Myles Garrett, one of the best defenders in the NFL. Beebe was strong.
“Cooper Beebe is built to lead an offensive line and set the tempo,” said quarterback Dak Prescott. “A guy like Tyler loves football. He loves his teammates and doesn’t want to let anyone down.”
Guyton whispered to Prescott, “My bad,” after allowing the sack. Prescott told him not to worry and to keep going.
“And that’s what he’s doing, he’s closing the gap,” Prescott said. “He fought hard tonight.”
“Two guys I am super proud of and I look forward to many more games with them.”
