What does “She se puede” by Eva Longoria mean? When should you use it?

As the last night in The Democratic Party Convention came to an endthere were some big names on stage before it all started culminated in Kamala Harris accepting her party’s nomination as presidential candidate. One of these speakers was Eva Longoria, the popular actress from Texas.

“I have known Kamala Harris for more than a decade and she comes from a family very similar to mine,” the 49-year-old began. “We were both raised knowing that no one would give us anything, especially not as women.”

She continued with a message of encouragement and support, but it was her Latino-focused joke that garnered the most attention.

“Kamala Harris can do it!” says Longoria

A phrase that has become popular in Spanish-speaking countries or communities is “Si, se puede,” which simply translates to “Yes, we can!” Longoria, however, put a new twist on the whole thing by saying, “She, se puede,” referring directly to Harris.

“If someone asks you, ‘Is she ready to move the country forward?’ we will say, ‘She can!’ If someone asks you, ‘Is she qualified for the job?’ we will say, ‘She can!'”

“Our votes, our choice, we will decide the election,” The actress concluded by emphasizing the growing energy throughout the United States for Hariis-Walz’s positive and non-divisive electoral program.
