West Ham United 4-1 Ipswich Town: Hammers overwhelm the visitors and secure their first home win of the season in the Premier League

West Ham picked up their first home Premier League win of the season by beating newly promoted Ipswich Town, who have not won since returning to the top flight.

Goals from Michail Antonio, Mohammed Kudus, Jarrod Bowen and Lucas Paqueta gave the Hammers the three points and eased the pressure on coach Julen Lopetegui after a lukewarm start since he replaced David Moyes as coach.

Antonio swept Bowen’s low cross home after 48 seconds but in a frantic start Liam Delap equalized while Alphonse Areola failed to keep out his 18-yard shot despite having a hand on the ball.

Ipswich missed opportunities to move forward and this, along with a series of defensive errors, proved costly.

Dara O’Shea cleared Tomas Soucek’s shot off the line after Ipswich lost possession in their own penalty area, but the hosts restored their lead when Kudus reacted quickest, heading in from close range after Antonio’s header came off the crossbar bounced and fell onto the goal line.

But the hosts dominated after the break and Bowen, who was not in the England squad for the Nations League games against Greece and Finland, scored a fine low shot to secure victory over Ipswich.

The goal again resulted from a defensive error by Ipswich. Ben Johnson’s back pass took a toll on goalkeeper Arijanet Muric, but he couldn’t control the ball and lost possession, while Bowen scored his second goal of the season shortly afterwards.

His second assist of the afternoon later came with a pass with the outside of his boot, with Paqueta scoring West Ham’s fourth goal from close range on a miserable day for the visitors.
