Good morning, Chicago Bears fans.
After a long, exhausting off-season full of dissatisfaction, we have made it this far.
Caleb Williams is a Chicago Bear and will make his first appearance as a Bear today in a regular season game against the Tennessee Titans.
The start of a new season is always a time of optimism and seeing your team in the best possible light, but that’s true now more than ever for this Bears franchise that clung too long to the ghosts of 1985 and 2006 and the failed quarterbacks of yesterday. We’d love to tell our grandchildren about the days of Williams and Rome Odunze and DJ Moore the way we wax lyrical about the days of Butkus, Sayers, Payton, Ditka and Urlacher.
Of course, we can’t just crown them – the other team sees itself in the best light too, and right now that means a 12:00 kickoff and reality will set in one way or another. Will Levis enters his second year with his own squad of really good veteran weapons in DeAndre Hopkins and Calvin Ridley. If the Navy and Orange hope to get things going properly, someone needs to step in alongside Montez Sweat in the pass rush to really kick this solid defense into an extra gear.
Win the game before you today. Write tomorrow’s chapter tomorrow.
