Wawa began construction of its first West Virginia location in the community of Inwood earlier this week with a groundbreaking ceremony, writes Fox business for the New York Post.

The new store is Wawa’s first foray into the Mountain State. The location is expected to open its doors to customers in the first quarter of next year.

“Wawa is expanding into West Virginia and we are excited to continue growing in new markets to provide the community with our unique offerings and commitment to supporting the community,” said John Poplawski, vice president of real estate at Wawa.

There are currently more than 1,060 Wawa stores in eight states and Washington, DC

Wawa “looks forward to our first grand openings in early 2025 when we can begin serving this wonderful West Virginia community,” Poplawski said.

As part of its initial plans for the state, the convenience store chain intends to build between three and five new stores in West Virginia within as many years.

Wawa is also considering possibly opening new stores in Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Georgia and Tennessee.
