Watertown International Airport receives over .4 million for runway repairs

TOWN OF HOUNSFIELD, N.Y. (WWNY) – Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand announced Monday that over $3.4 million in federal funding has been allocated for Watertown International Airport.

Funds from the Airport Improvement Program will be used to replace 36 airport guidance signs and repair cracks in the runway pavement.

The project includes in particular the renovation of runways 10-28 and 7-25. Some of these runways have not been renovated for twenty years.

“These funds will help maintain the long-term structure of the main runways and ensure that the surfaces remain smooth and appropriately marked,” said Watertown International Airport’s aviation director.

“Americans across the country are increasingly concerned about aviation safety, and I fought hard to increase funding for the Airport Improvement Program so that airports in upstate New York and across the country have the resources they need to meet the highest safety standards,” said Senator Charles Schumer.

“I am proud to have worked to secure this funding and will continue to fight for the urgent modernization and improvement of airports across New York State,” said Senator Kirsten Gillibrand.
