Watch: Jon Bon Jovi saves woman from jumping from bridge

Veteran rock star Jon Bon Jovi was hailed as a hero after coming to the aid of a woman in distress on the Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge in Nashville on Tuesday.

The Grammy-winning musician was filming a music video on the bridge when he and a video production assistant saw the woman standing on the ledge, Nashville police confirmed in a social media post.

Video footage of the incident, which police briefly posted on YouTube and then removed, shows the production assistant starting a conversation with the woman, who was wearing a blue shirt and holding on to the railing on the ledge.

The video showed other people walking past her, as well as some further down the bridge, while Bon Jovi’s team appeared to be setting up their camera equipment.

As the conversation progressed, 62-year-old Bon Jovi slowly and calmly approached the woman, waved to her and then began to speak to her.

A tense moment followed as the woman turned and looked at Bon Jovi and the assistant.

He then helped her climb over the railing to safety.

After the rescue, the rock icon hugged the woman comfortingly.

A few minutes later, police footage shows Bon Jovi leaving the bridge with her.

The Metro Nashville Police Department posted the video on social media: “A big thank you to Jon Bon Jovi and his team who helped a woman on the Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge on Tuesday night. Bon Jovi helped persuade her to get off the edge above the Cumberland River and get to safety.”

Tennessee Police Chief John Drake said, “We all have to do our part to protect each other.”

Bon Jovi shot a music video for his song “The People’s House” on the bridge; the bridge remained open to the public during filming.
