Wanted man taken into custody after standoff at Richland home

RICHLAND, Mississippi (WLBT) – A man wanted on a warrant is in custody following a brief standoff at a Richland home Tuesday.

According to the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office, officers attempted to arrest 24-year-old James Martin in the 200 block of Sundance Circle.

When officers approached Martin at the front door of the home, he refused to comply with verbal commands, barricaded himself, and threatened to use firearms inside the home.

Over the next hour, several attempts were made to reach Martin by phone in an effort to peacefully resolve the incident.

At 10:58 a.m., according to Rankin County, Martin turned himself in to police at the scene and was taken into custody. He was then transported to the Rankin County Jail.

Due to the circumstances of this incident, additional charges may be pending against Martin.

The Rankin County Sheriff’s Department Special Operations Team and the Richland Police Department Special Operations Team responded to the scene, along with several crisis negotiators.

The original crime related to the arrest warrant has not been released.
