Walmart in North Logan evacuated after implausible bomb threat

LOGAN, Utah – Police concluded a bomb threat at the Walmart in North Logan was not credible after searching the store.

The threat said a bomb would be placed at the Walmart in North Logan on August 11. North Park Police Chief Kent Goodrich said police responded by evacuating the Walmart out of an abundance of caution.

According to police, the threat was transmitted to the FBI’s National Threat Operation Center at 1 a.m. Sunday morning.

“We have been in touch with Walmart and their night management,” Goodrich said. “Walmart evacuated its employees and then remained closed to the public for several hours this morning while our investigators followed up on the lead that came in from this tip.”

NPPD and Chache County Sheriff’s officers searched Walmart but found no threat. Goodrich said the FBI also offered its services.

“We are pleased with Walmart and management for being able to work with us,” Goodrich said.

Detectives and officers from the NPPD were able to identify a suspect, a resident of Logan. This identification was made after NTOC detectives identified the owner of the address to which the tip came.

Police said the person in question is currently being questioned.

The North Logan Walmart was able to reopen to the public around 10:30 a.m.
