Vanderbilt fans throw a goal post into the Cumberland River after Alabama’s victory

Vanderbilt football’s shocking win over Alabama on Saturday, possibly the biggest victory in the program’s history, calls for a major celebration.

And the Commodores fan base delivered after the 40-35 win over the Crimson Tide in Nashville, rushing down the field before tearing down the goal post. Vanderbilt fans then rushed the goal post from FirstBank Stadium to Broadway Street in downtown Nashville before throwing the goal post into the Cumberland River.

Vanderbilt fans created unforgettable memories following Saturday’s historic win, including the 3-mile trek from FirstBank Stadium to the Cumberland River.

Commodores first-year transfer quarterback Diego Pavia completed 16 of 20 passes for 252 yards with two touchdowns in the game and also rushed for 56 yards on 20 carries. Vanderbilt finished the game with a time of possession of 42:08, compared to Alabama’s 17:52. The Commodores also outscored Alabama in total offense, 418-394.

It took a horde of Vanderbilt fans to carry the goal post out of the stadium, onto Broadway Street and into the river, but the adrenaline of a big win certainly helped in the task.
