Vandalism of Spectrum lines caused power outages in the Coachella Valley over the weekend

Spectrum cut fiber optic lines at an undisclosed location in the Coachella Valley over the weekend, disrupting internet, cable and phone services for some residents for several hours.

According to company spokesman Dennis Johnson, Spectrum customers in several cities in the valley were affected by the vandalism that occurred Saturday evening.

“By Sunday morning, all services had been restored to all customers in the Desert Cities who experienced disruptions due to the vandalism,” Johnson said in an emailed statement. “We thank our customers for their patience as we made the necessary repairs as quickly as possible.”

Several cities in the valley were affected, including Palm Desert, Palm Springs, Indio, Desert Hot Springs, Rancho Mirage and La Quinta. The service outage also extended to Yucca Valley.

Johnson would not say where the vandalism occurred, but Spectrum representatives reported it to police. It’s unclear which law enforcement agency received the report, and a Riverside County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson could not find any information or reports on the incident.
