Upstate school districts close for rest of week after Helene; other schedule changes

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) – Some school districts in the Upstate announced plans to close for the rest of the week following Hurricane Helene.

Here’s a look at the school districts that will remain closed through Friday, October 4:

  • Greenville County Schools
  • ALL Spartanburg County school districts
  • Cherokee County Schools
  • ALL Anderson County school districts

The school systems said they would close due to a lack of stable power or safe transportation routes as they needed to evaluate 370 individual bus routes.

They will also not be holding e-learning courses due to the lack of electricity, internet access and unreliable cell phone reception throughout the community.

The districts said they have not yet made a decision about in-person instruction or e-learning for the week of Oct. 7. Once power is restored, it will take at least 48 hours for cafeteria food supplies to be replenished.

Here is a list of other school districts that are seeing schedule changes:

  • The Oconee County School District announced it will remain closed on Wednesday, October 2nd and will resume its normal schedule on Thursday, October 3rd.
  • The Pickens County School District said it will be closed on both Wednesday, October 2nd and Thursday, October 3rd.
