Upstate school districts announce changes Monday after assessing the damage

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) – Upstate school districts will decide whether or not students, staff and faculty will return to school on Monday, September 30th.

Greenville County Schools (GCS) announced it will be closed Monday, September 30th and Tuesday, October 1st. Due to widespread power and internet outages, e-learning is not possible, so classes are canceled.

GCS said it would announce plans on Wednesday.

The Pickens County School District and Spartanburg County School District Two said they plan to assess the damage at each of their schools and will release statements with a decision at a later date.

Greenwood County School District 50 is on fall break, so there are no class changes to report. However, changes to the sports schedule are expected to be announced on Monday.

FOX Carolina has reached out to other school districts to see if they are assessing the damage.

“We hope to make a decision as early as possible,” Spartanburg County Second School District said. “Right now, I think everyone’s priority is to provide their families with essentials and recover from the damage of the storm.”
