UPDATE: Canton man arrested and seriously injured after collision with restaurant in East Peoria

EAST PEORIA, Ill. – A car speeding through East Peoria Thursday night crashed into a fast-food restaurant.

According to police, the driver, 22-year-old Reese Allen of Canton, was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

When officers arrived shortly after 9:30 p.m., they found that Allen’s car had struck the Hardee’s store on N. Main Street and was leaning against the building near the drive-thru.

Witnesses on the scene told 25 News that the car passed through the intersection of Main and Washington at a high rate of speed, struck another car, then sped through the Popeyes parking lot, rolled over at Hardee’s and crashed into the back of the building.

East Peoria Police had reasonable suspicion to arrest Allen for drunk driving, reckless driving, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, and illegal transportation of alcohol.

The accident is still under investigation by East Peoria Police.


EAST PEORIA, Illinois — Late Thursday evening, a speeding vehicle crashed into the back of a restaurant in East Peoria.

The driver of the car was taken to a hospital for medical treatment, but his condition is unknown, according to the East Peoria Fire Department news release.

Witnesses said the vehicle sped through the intersection of Main Street and Springfield Road, where it struck another car. The car then sped through the Popeyes parking lot, struck a curb and rolled onto its roof near the Hardee’s drive-thru.

Rescue workers had to free the driver from his vehicle.

The manager of Hardee’s told 25 News that none of their employees were injured.

Firefighters and police officers from East Peoria were on scene along with the Illinois State Police.

The cause of the crash is still being investigated.
