Tyreek Hill said he has only watched the video of his arrest by Miami-Dade police once, which occurred during a traffic stop before a season-opening win over the Jaguars.
The Dolphins receiver’s pregnant wife, Keeta Vaccaro, couldn’t stop watching it – and his mother got angrier every time she saw it.
“I can’t watch it more than once,” Hill told Taylor Rooks on “Thursday Night Football” on Amazon Prime. “My mom and my wife have probably seen it 100 times.”
“And my mom always says, ‘Every time I see this video, I get angrier.’
“I said, ‘Let’s not get angry. Let’s learn, because the more we get in return, the more we push back. It’s about responsibility on both sides.'”
Hill and Vaccaro married last November during Miami’s off week in Texas after the couple had been engaged since July 2021.
They are reportedly expecting a little girl together.
Hill said he still doesn’t fully understand his arrest, adding that the arrest is currently being investigated internally by the Miami-Dude Police Department.
One of the officers involved, a 27-year veteran of the Miami-Dade PD, has been placed on leave.
“It’s hard, it’s difficult,” Hill said. “You know, going through something like this is traumatic, man. It’s embarrassing for my family, my kids, especially my wife — that my wife is worried when she’s pregnant.”
“So, yeah, I’m still trying to put it all together, put the puzzle pieces together.”
Hill added that he will not let the incident affect his play on the field.
“Football is my refuge,” he said. “It’s where I pay my bills. It’s where I take care of my family.”
Hill claimed that an officer – there were several police officers on the scene – pinched him on the neck to provoke a reaction while he was handcuffed and lying facedown on the ground outside Hard Rock Stadium on September 8.
Hill also repeatedly called for the immediate dismissal of the suspended officer.
He played in the opening game and scored an 80-yard touchdown in Miami’s 20-17 win on Sunday.
The 30-year-old All-Pro then performed a cheer while handcuffed.
As a result of his traffic stop, Hill received two citations, including for reckless driving and failure to wear a seat belt.
The South Florida Police Benevolent Association said in a statement that Hill was arrested for “driving in a manner that placed himself and others in grave danger.”
According to the PBA, Hill was then handcuffed because he “did not immediately cooperate.”
The wideout played in Miami’s 31-10 loss to the Bills on Thursday when Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was ruled out in the third quarter with a concussion.
In Week 3, the Dolphins will face the Seahawks in Seattle.
