Two people charged with kidnapping after Odessa boy disappears

ECTOR COUNTY, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) – UPDATED: At least two people have been charged with kidnapping, a third-degree felony, following the disappearance of an Odessa boy Friday night, according to jail records.

The six-year-old boy, identified in an Amber alert as Maxamillius Dominguez, disappeared from his home around 8 p.m. on September 20, triggering a statewide Amber alert and a large-scale search by local law enforcement agencies.

Investigators said the child was kidnapped by his father, 42-year-old Jose Dominguez, and they believed the child was in serious danger.

After a multi-agency search that extended into Gardendale, the boy was found safe and sound Saturday night. Sheriff Mike Griffis announced shortly after 6 p.m. on Sept. 21 that the child was in police custody, but did not say whether he was injured during the ordeal.

While police did not release further details, jail records show that Dominguez and the boy’s mother, identified by the family as Venessa Mariscal, were charged in connection with the child’s disappearance. Both remained in custody at the Ector County Law Enforcement Center as of Sunday morning.

Ector County Sheriff Mike Griffis said the six-year-old boy who had been missing since Friday evening has been found safe and sound.

This came after investigators spent several hours searching in Gardendale on Saturday.

The search for a missing Odessa boy continued Saturday as investigators from the Ector County Sheriff’s Office, Federal Bureau of Investigation and other agencies scoured an area in Gardendale for signs of the child.

According to witnesses at the scene, a Cadillac similar to the model associated with a nationwide Amber Alert was removed from the search area by a tow truck for further processing.

Sheriff Mike Griffis confirmed that crews were searching the area for the child and also said the child has not been found yet. There is no information yet on whether the kidnapping suspect has been found, but we will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.


The Ector County Sheriff’s Office has issued an Amber Alert for a six-year-old boy who was last seen Friday.

Maxamillius Aiden Dominguez was last seen on September 20 at approximately 8:36 p.m. in the 4800 block of W 39th.th Street is wearing a teal Toy Story shirt, blue jeans and black Crocs. Investigators are also looking for his suspected kidnapper, 42-year-old Jose Magdaleno Dominguez. Dominguez was last seen wearing a tan hat, tan shirt and tan shorts.

Jail records show that Dominguez has multiple prior arrests for assault, drug possession, fleeing from custody and evading arrest. He was most recently arrested by the Texas Department of Public Safety in August 2024 for failing to appear in court on traffic-related charges and drug possession. He was released from custody on August 15 on $28,000 bail.

According to ECSO, the child and the suspect were last seen in a blue 2009 Cadillac CTS with Texas license plate GWX-3047. According to ECSO, the vehicle has a sunroof.

Investigators believe the child is in grave or immediate danger.
