TSA confiscates stun gun disguised as iPhone at Washington Reagan National Airport

A passenger departing from Raegan Airport in Washington DC had his stun gun disguised as an iPhone confiscated during security on Tuesday. TSA clearly states that “Tasers, stun guns, and electroshock weapons that render the device inoperable through accidental discharge must be transported.” The counterfeit phone was then confiscated by TSA agents at the airport security checkpoint.

The officials at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) confiscated the stun gun disguised as an iPhone that was in the passenger’s carry-on baggage and identified by security officers. On the bottom of the fake iPhone, where you normally plug it in to charge, there were two prongs that indicated where you could shock someone. This stun gun is the 26th weapon confiscated at Washington DC Airport so far this year.

Although it is legal to carry a stun gun in the state of Virginia, there are some restrictions, such as being prohibited from carrying them through the TSA. Checkpoints . However, they are allowed in checked baggage. According to the TSA website, the maximum fine for carrying guns is currently $15,000. TSA spokeswoman Lisa Farbstein offered this advice, as reported by 8NewsNow:

“If you have a stun gun, a taser or something similar, you are allowed to travel with it. If you want to transport it for your flight, you should make sure it doesn’t work, so take the batteries out.”


The passengers whose stun guns were confiscated were questioned at the time, but were not arrested or charged with any crime. However, the stun gun was subsequently confiscated.

Other passengers were shocked at how realistic the iPhone looked

Nexstar’s WDCW surveyed other passengers arriving and departing from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) this week about the recent seizure, and respondents were surprised at how realistic the phone looked:


“This is absolutely crazy. I’m glad they were able to catch this. I mean, this is scary.” – Jennifer Lucio Vargas.

“In the portfolio of crazy things, I guess it’s just another object that goes with the big knives and the guns and whatever. But it’s pretty ingenious. And also disturbing.” – Jim Asplund

“You hear all sorts of things about people trying to get things through, but they seem to be doing a good job of keeping things out.” – John Denning

As Farbstien reiterated, the TSA has seen a record number of passengers pass through airport checkpoints this summer, resulting in a record number of items being confiscated.
