When Donald Trump was asked directly during the presidential debate on Tuesday night whether he regretted his actions on January 6, 2021, he could not name a single one.
ABC News anchor David Muir pointed out in his question that Trump waited more than two hours on January 6 before delivering a video message urging the rioters at the Capitol to go home.
“Do you regret anything about what you did that day?” Muir asked.
Trump responded defiantly, claiming that his message had called on protesters supporting him to behave “peacefully and patriotically.”
Trump also claimed that “no one was killed on the other side. Ashli Babbitt was shot by an out-of-control cop who should never have shot her. It’s a disgrace.” (He apparently forgot about the Capitol police officers who died.)
Muir then asked the question again and Trump again denied any responsibility.
“I had nothing to do with it other than they asked me to give a speech. I showed up to give a speech and said I think this is going to be big,” Trump said. replied.

Kamala Harris did not mince her words in her response, notes that Trump was impeached and removed from office for his actions on January 6.
Trump’s thoughts on January 6 are disturbing, as he violent mob who wanted to overturn the 2020 presidential election in his name. Citing Ashli Babbitt is part of a years-long effort by conservatives to obscure their own responsibility for the Capitol riot. If Trump loses in November, his response at Tuesday night’s debate could suggest he would be willing to incite another violent mob to tip the outcome in his favor.
