Trump holds rally in Wilmington, North Carolina after second assassination attempt

play

On Saturday, Donald Trump is expected to hold a rally in Wilmington – less than a week after a second assassination attempt on the former president.

On Sunday, a man pointed a rifle through the fence at the edge of a golf course where Trump was playing golf in West Palm Beach, Florida. A suspect, Ryan Routh, has since been arrested.

The first attempt occurred in July at an outdoor rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. One bystander was killed, two were “seriously injured” and the Republican presidential candidate suffered a gunshot wound to the ear.

Trump will visit the Aero Center in Wilmington, a largely outdoor venue, this weekend. What can rally attendees expect and what safety measures will be in place?

Details about the event at the Wilmington Aero Center

Trump’s rally in Wilmington is scheduled to take place on Saturday. The event will be held near the Wilmington International Airport grounds at the Aero Center, 1830 Flightline Road.

Doors open at 10am, and the event will begin at around 2pm. Two tickets per mobile number can be reserved via the event website.

The former president had planned to hold a rally at the same location in April, but was unable to hold it due to severe weather. At the time, he told the crowd by phone that he was rescheduling the event.

What security measures are taken?

Due to security reasons, details could not be released, but Lt. Jerry Brewer confirmed that the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office is working with federal authorities to ensure the safety of the rally.

As of Tuesday, the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office had no information about any detours or road closures planned for Saturday, Brewer said.

Brandon Shope, communications specialist with the Wilmington Police Department, did not confirm whether the agency would assist with security at the event and declined to comment on the former president’s security personnel because the U.S. Secret Service has primary responsibility for security.

Representatives of the Wilmington Aero Center did not comment on the expected security measures on site and only pointed out that the space had been rented for the rally.

Following the latest assassination attempt, President Joe Biden vowed to “ensure that the Secret Service has ‘every tool’ to ensure Trump’s safety, adding that ‘there is no place for political violence.'”

A representative of Trump’s campaign team had not responded to an email from StarNews regarding the planned security measures by the time of publication.

Should we expect changes to Trump’s campaign plan?

There are no signs that the latest assassination attempt in Florida will dramatically alter Trump’s campaign schedule. Before the rally in Wilmington, the former president is expected to stop in Flint, Michigan, Uniondale, New York and Washington, DC.

Trump is running against Democratic presidential candidate and Vice President Kamala Harris.
