A year after October 7, Washington cannot offer a clear path forward

Three hundred and sixty-five days after Hamas militants stormed Israeli military bases and communities in an attack the group dubbed the “Al-Aqsa Flood,” bloody conflict continues to rage in the region. Now US leaders see no positive outlook for either Israel or the Palestinian territories.

Monday marked the first anniversary of what many called the worst attack on Jews since the Holocaust. It also marked the start of a three-way war between Hamas, Israel and Hezbollah, with civilians caught in the crossfire across the region.

Full article: Georgia Supreme Court restores near-total abortion ban while state appeals

The Georgia Supreme Court on Monday overturned a ruling striking down the state’s near-existing abortion ban while still considering the state’s appeal.

The Supreme Court’s order came a week after a judge ruled that Georgia unconstitutionally bans abortions after about six weeks of pregnancy, often before women even realize they are pregnant. Fulton County Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney ruled Sept. 30 that privacy rights under the Georgia state constitution include the right to make personal health decisions.

The state Supreme Court put McBurney’s ruling on hold at the request of Republican Attorney General Chris Carr, whose office is appealing the judge’s decision.

In the “60 Minutes” interview, Walz tries to move on from a “knucklehead” gaffe in the Tiananmen Square story

Vice presidential candidate Tim Walz faced challenging questions 60 minutes about whether he could be trusted after the governor of Minnesota falsely claimed he was in Hong Kong during the 1989 Tiananmen Square massacre.

“I will admit that I’m a jerk sometimes,” he continued. “The people closest to me know that I keep my word.”

Trump mixes election campaign and commemoration on October 7th

Donald Trump has joined scores of world leaders around the world mourning the victims of the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7.

At the same time, he used events in New York and Florida as quasi-campaign stops, promoting his own re-election efforts while remembering the more than 1,200 people killed in the invasion.

At an event at his Doral golf club, Trump said, to put it bluntly: Election Day in the United States this year will be the most important day in Israel’s history.

The former president argued at the event that he would root out anti-Semitism and protect Israel through strong U.S. support, pausing to thank campaign donors and political allies.

The memorial featured portraits of those killed and missing in the war, as well as Trump campaign signs and signature songs like “YMCA,” which played over the public address system as the former president left the stage.
