Tropical Storm Helene forms in the Caribbean, Florida faces dangerous hurricane threat

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) said the system, previously designated Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine, had strengthened into a tropical storm in the Caribbean Sea and was approaching the Gulf of Mexico as showers and thunderstorms became sufficiently organized around the low pressure system.
