CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) – Charlotte Douglas International Airport had the most flight delays and cancellations in the country Thursday, according to FlightAware.
The busy Charlotte airport has seen more than 580 delays and at least 18 cancellations since 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, the flight tracking website reports. Charlotte Douglas International Airport, which was in the path of Tropical Storm Debby, reportedly had the most flight cancellations and delays of any U.S. airport on Thursday.
Other airports that ranked high on FlightAware’s “Misery Map” on Thursday included those in Miami, New York City and Washington, DC
Tropical Storm Debby made a second landfall in the Carolinas early Thursday morning. North Carolina was inundated with rain Thursday morning and early afternoon, including the Charlotte metropolitan area.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Flood Information and Notification System reported that at least 4 inches of rain fell in the Charlotte airport area between Thursday morning and 1 p.m. Most communities in the metropolitan area received between 3 and 4.5 inches of rain during that period, with some communities receiving nearly 5 inches.
Most of the rain was expected to ease in the Charlotte area by Thursday afternoon or evening, but flood warnings and watches were in effect at least through Friday as the storm was still causing flooding.

Roads throughout the Charlotte metropolitan area were closed Thursday due to flooding or downed trees. As of 1:32 p.m. Thursday, more than 104,000 Duke Energy customers in the Carolinas were without power.
