DELRAY BEACH – A woman died Wednesday morning after she was struck by a southbound Tri-Rail train in Delray Beach, police said.

Investigators could not immediately determine the woman’s identity or say what caused the accident, which occurred around 8 a.m. on Southwest 10th Street near Congress Avenue, south of the Delray Beach train station. The woman died at the scene.

Southwest 10th Street was closed eastbound while police investigated the accident.

At the time of the accident, 110 passengers were on board the train, said Tri-Rail spokesman Victor Garcia. A bus took them to the Tri-Rail station in Boca Raton.

Officials cleared the train involved in the accident at 9:30 a.m. and it continued to the Boca Raton station. Starting at 10:15 a.m., northbound trains stopped at the Boca Raton station and passengers were bused to locations north of the accident site.

Southbound trains are allowed to pass the accident scene at what Garcia described as “walking speed.” There are no reports of injuries to passengers or crew.

Police said further information would be provided as soon as it became available.
