Traffic and parking information for Founder’s Day events and Homecoming 2024

With a concert, a football game and several anniversary, homecoming and community celebrations across campus, the weekend of September 26-29 will be an especially busy time at Duke.

To help regulate traffic flow and congestion and ensure the safety of community members and visitors to the Durham campus during events, here are some adjustments to consider.

Friday, September 27th

Read this event guide from A to Z for important information about bag checks, security, parking, accessibility and other information about the Centennial program and concert.

Events taking place at Duke on Friday include the dedication of the George and George-Frank Wall Center for Student Life on East Campus at 4 p.m. and a Centennial Founders’ Day celebration and concert at 7:30 p.m at Brooks Field at Wallace Wade Stadium Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran, acclaimed Durham hip-hop artist 9th Wonder and comedian, actress and Duke graduate Retta.

What you need to know:

  • Beginning at approximately 4:30 p.m. Friday and throughout the concert, access to West Campus will be limited to those with a DukeCard ID, Duke Parking Permit or concert ticket.
  • If you attend the concert, review the stadium bag guidelines and other important information in this AZ event guide.
  • All Duke bus routes will continue with their normal schedules Friday evening, but Duke van service will not operate. From 4:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. additional buses run on the east-west route C1. From 6:40 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., additional buses provide expanded service on the PR1 route.
  • Students, staff and faculty attending the concert are asked to park their cars in regular parking lots and use additional bus routes C-1, PR1 and Concert Express, which will drop off and pick up near Wallace Wade Stadium.

Saturday September 28th

Duke will face rival North Carolina for its homecoming game at Brooks Field at Wallace Wade Stadium at 4 p.m. Congestion is expected around West Campus.

What you need to know:

  • Vehicle access to West Campus is limited to permit holders.

Sunday, September 29th

The Pride: Durham, NC event will feature a parade starting at 11 a.m. and will require the temporary closure of portions of Trinity Avenue, Main Street, Broad Street, Knox Street and Ninth Street. The event also includes a community kickback celebration on East Campus from 1 to 4 p.m

What you need to know:

  • Expect delays and congestion around East Campus from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m
  • Public parking for the parade and Community Kickback is available on East Campus in the Epworth Lot and nearby in the Smith Warehouse Lots on Maxwell Street.
