Tornadoes damage buildings in Indiana during severe storms

Severe storms swept through Indiana Sunday night, spawning at least two tornadoes, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). The winds ripped roofs off buildings, but no injuries were reported.

According to NWS Indianapolis, a tornado struck just outside the city of Yorktown, Indiana. Weather service teams will assess the damage later Monday to determine the strength and path of the twister.

The worst damage was in the city of Muncie, around the office of a local construction company on Cammack Street. Employees told reporters that parts of the roof had been torn off by the storm and that exterior siding from the building was scattered across the lawn and parking lot, according to Delaware County Emergency Management.

The tornado sirens sounded around 7:30 p.m. local time on Sunday. The county’s emergency management agency said they set off the outdoor sirens out of an abundance of caution.
