Top 25 Kentucky High School Football Rankings (9/23/2024)

Five weeks of the 2024 Kentucky high school football season are complete and the best are beginning to fight their way to the top.

After another busy week of multiple matchups between the top 25 teams, here is our complete breakdown of Kentucky’s elite high school football teams heading into Week 6 of the 2024 season.

The state’s top team remained undefeated with a 48-0 home win over Taylor County, jumping to No. 17 on this week’s national SBLive/SI Top 25 rankings for high school football.

The Shamrocks flexed their muscles in a Class 6A showdown, securing second place with a big 24-21 win over No. 4 Male, who was undefeated until then.

The Crimsons won comfortably 35-7 over No. 17 South Warren.

It was a nerve-wracking battle for the Bulldogs for the second week in a row, but this time they came up short in their battle against No. 2 Trinity.

The Jaguars dominated No. 22 Great Crossing 62-36 and appear to remain the frontrunner in Class 5A, having already beaten two other top-25 teams this season.

The Broncos’ only two losses this year came against top-three teams (DuPont Manual and Trinity), and they had no trouble in their 35-14 win over No. 14 Corbin last week.

The Tigers have lost their last two games against Male and Elder by a combined three points and could easily be 4-0 now if things had gone a little differently. Unfortunately, things aren’t going to get any easier for them as they face Trinity this week before facing Ryle away next week.

The Raiders won their second consecutive Top 25 matchup, following up their win over No. 16 Highlands with a narrow 28-24 victory over No. 15 Christian Academy-Louisville.

Without Boyle County, the Blue Tornados would be the best team in Class 4A. So far this season, they have outscored their opponents by a combined score of 247-43.

The Purples appeared to be outmatched in their season opener against Fredrick Douglas, but have dominated their four games since then, holding Central Hardin to just two points last week.

The Aces may only be in Class 2A, but they look like they can beat several teams in higher divisions. Last week, they defeated Henderson County 28-2.

The Flyers remained undefeated with their third win of the season and have held an opponent to seven or fewer points. Aside from their win over Lexington Christian, they have not had a close game this season.

The Eagles went on the road and got the job done last week with a 42-23 win over Lexington Catholic.

The Redhounds suffered their first loss of the season against Fredrick Douglas and will look to bounce back against Hazard this week.

The Centurions have lost two games in a row, but both losses were by one touchdown or less and against teams ranked in the top 15.

After a 6-point loss to Ryle two weeks ago, the Bluebirds returned to winning ways with a 35-0 win over Raceland.

South Warren lost at home to DuPont Manual, but still appears to be a contender in Class 5A.

The Yellowjackets allowed 22 points last week, their highest point total of the season, but still managed to beat Pulaski County by nine points.

The Colonels looked confident at home against Beechwood, handing the Tigers their first loss of the season with a 21-point win.

The Tomcats won their second consecutive game by at least 41 points.

The Golden Eagles were on a tear last week, defeating North Laurel 42-0 at home.

The Warhawks suffered their first loss of the year last week at No. 5 Cooper. This week they host Madison Central.

After its first loss of the season against Covington Catholic, Beechwood looks to improve its record to 5-1 against Gallatin County on Friday.

You don’t see many 2-3 teams in the top 25, but the Defenders have never lost to an opponent outside the top 10.

The Eagles had their first close game of the season last week, beating Somerset by just 13 points. They have won all other matches by at least 35 points.
