Titans stick with Will Levis after Mason Rudolph leads team to first win: ‘There is no controversy’

The Tennessee Titans will not make a quarterback change during the bye week.

Titans head coach Brian Callahan reiterated his support for Will Levis on Tuesday, a day after the quarterback left the Monday Night Football game against the Miami Dolphins early due to a shoulder injury. Backup quarterback Mason Rudolph stepped in and then led the Titans to a commanding 31-12 victory.

Although Rudolph looked solid and Levis has struggled all year, Callahan insisted Levis will be their starting quarterback for the game in two weeks against the Indianapolis Colts as long as he is healthy.

After throwing a bad interception on the first drive, Levis landed awkwardly on his right shoulder while diving for a first down on the game’s second possession. He left there and was replaced by Rudolph the rest of the way.

Details of his injury are not yet known, but it is not believed to be serious or would keep him out for several weeks. The team is also heading into its bye week, giving them additional time to recover.

“I don’t think it’ll be anything too serious other than a normal AC injury,” Callahan said after the game, via ESPN. “Right now I don’t think it’s a long-term problem for us.”

Rudolph came into the game and easily led the Titans to their first win of the season. He finished 9 of 17 for 85 yards. Tony Pollard led them on the ground with 88 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries. Although Rudolph didn’t put up outstanding numbers, it was the first time since the 2021 season that the Titans scored more than 30 points in a game.

Levis’ early problems were nothing new for him either. He has now thrown six interceptions in four games, giving him the most interceptions in the league, and just four touchdowns.

While Levis’ start has been less than great and Callahan is clearly struggling, just look at his outburst toward the former Kentucky star after he made a serious fumble in last month’s loss to the New York Jets – Levis is still his starting quarterback for the foreseeable future.

“Will is healthy, he’s our quarterback,” Callahan said after the game, via ESPN. “He’s our starter when he’s healthy and we’re ready to play with him.”
