Titans place Marlon Davidson on injured list

Marlon Davidson was in position to take on a backup role in his second season with the Titans in 2024, but that won’t be the case. The fourth-year edge rusher was placed on the injured list on Friday due to a torn biceps, the team announced.

Davidson failed to live up to expectations during his tenure with the Falcons. The former second-round pick recorded just one sack in 19 games with Atlanta before being released permanently in October 2022. That led to a brief stint on the 49ers’ practice squad the following year before Davidson signed with Tennessee. He made five appearances toward the end of the season and posted a career-high 48% of defensive snaps.

Davidson re-signed with the Titans in May and received an extended look after the team’s only draft pick came in the seventh round. The 26-year-old recorded one sack, 10 tackles and two QB pressures during his brief time with Tennessee and was in position to compete for a backup position in 2024. Instead, he will now focus on his recovery.

If Davidson were to be released on an injury settlement, he would be free to join a new team, but otherwise he would have to sit out the entire season before becoming a free agent next spring. The Titans will be trading players like Harold Landry, Arden Key And Rashad Weaver along the edge. Davidson was able to take snaps inside as well, but the team will focus on Jeffery Simmons, Sebastian Joseph Day And T’Vondre Sweat along the D-line in his absence.

In a corresponding move, Tennessee signed the defensive lineman Abdullah Anderson. The 28-year-old has played 33 games in the NFL and has suited up for a different team in each of his five seasons to date. If Anderson survives the roster cuts at the end of the month, the Titans will have a sixth employer as he eyes a rotation role in 2024.
