Rain showers could make for slick, wet roads Tuesday evening as the remnants of a tropical depression moving over the Carolinas bring humid and windy weather to the Washington, DC area.

Any heavy rain showers on Tuesday are not expected to be widespread.

“Persistent to heavy rain is possible at times and there may also be some thunder overnight,” said Jordan Evans, senior meteorologist at 7News First Alert.

The heavy rain could cause isolated flooding late Wednesday evening, especially in areas along and south of Interstate 66 and Highway 50, according to the National Weather Service.

On Tuesday evening, wind gusts could reach up to 40 km/h, with temperatures between 25 and 40 degrees Celsius.

The wet weather is expected to continue for a few more days in the Washington DC region.

Drivers should allow extra time for their commute on Wednesday morning as scattered fog and persistent rain are forecast. Brian van de Graaff, senior meteorologist at 7News First Alert, said there could be heavy rain at times during the morning hours.

The weather is expected to clear up by Wednesday afternoon, Evans said.

The remnants of the tropical system are expected to weaken considerably by Thursday, but rain showers are still expected, especially during the first half of the day. In the afternoon, the skies will clear and the probability of rain will decrease, said van de Graaff.

However, Van de Graaff said the Washington area is expecting dry and seasonal weather on Friday, with highs of below 27 degrees, with a mix of sun and clouds and low humidity.
