“Three Worcester Public High Schools on AP Honor Roll”

Information about Worcester Public Schools

WORCESTER – Thursday, October 3, 2024 – Three Worcester Public Schools (WPS) high schools have been named to the College Board’s Advanced Placement Program School Honor Roll for improving their students’ college readiness.

Doherty Memorial High School received a silver medal, while South High Community School and University Park Campus School (UPCS) each received a bronze medal.

All three schools also received “platinum” scores on an award indicator. Doherty and South were both certified Platinum for College Optimization, which recognizes students who have completed at least five AP courses; and UPCS was awarded Platinum for College Culture, which highlights 12th grade students who have taken at least one AP course.

In 2024, all high schools in WPS experienced increased participation and proficiency scores in Advanced Placement courses and exams, resulting in a three-year high in both categories.

“Congratulations to all of our hard-working scientists who strive to achieve excellence to prepare for the world to come,” said Dr. Rachel H. Monárrez, WPS superintendent. “Thank you to all of our educators who empower our students to excel and embody the forward-thinking characteristics of Vision of a Learner.”

In addition, Doherty, South and UPCS also received AP Access Awards for encouraging low-income and underrepresented minority students to take AP courses. The percentage of students in at least one of these categories who took at least one AP exam before graduation is proportional to each school’s total or higher, demonstrating a clear and effective commitment to equitable access to advanced courses.
