These 6 hospitals in New Jersey are among the best in the country

Some of New Jersey’s hospitals continue to rank among the highest in the country, according to a national ranking by one of the medical industry’s leading publications.

The Becker’s Hospital Review’s 2024 Great Hospitals in America list was released last week, and includes six New Jersey hospitals in addition to facilities such as the Mayo Clinic, Massachusetts General Hospital and Johns Hopkins Hospital.

The hospitals also received national recognition from U.S. News & World Report, Healthgrades, CMS and The Leapfrog Group Ratings.

The medical facilities on the list are recognized for “clinical excellence, patient safety, innovation efforts, research and education, patient satisfaction and more,” according to the Becker’s Hospital Review website.

Here are the six New Jersey hospitals that made the list:

Hackensack University Medical Center — The nonprofit research and teaching hospital “has received numerous awards, including being ranked No. 1 hospital in New Jersey by U.S. News & World Report, Becker said. The facility has also been recognized as one of the most environmentally friendly hospitals in the country.

Jersey Shore University Medical Center — Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune is the only Level 1 adult and Level 2 pediatric trauma center in Monmouth and Ocean counties, according to Becker’s. The facility has also been recognized as one of the best hospitals in New Jersey by U.S. News & World Report and Healthgrades, and has received awards for excellence in cardiac and stroke care and patient safety.

Morristown Medical Center — Morristown Medical Center has the largest cardiac surgery program and the only hypertrophic cardiomyopathy center in the state, according to Becker’s. The hospital, part of the Atlantic Health System, is known for its Gagnon Cardiovascular Institute, which is ranked among the nation’s 50 best for cardiology, heart and vascular surgery by U.S. News and World Report. for 2024-25.

Overlook Medical Center Overlook Medical Center in Summit, part of the Atlantic Health System, has been named one of America’s 50 best hospitals by Heathgrades for five years in a row and one of the best hospitals in the world by Newsweek for six years in a row. The hospital is best known for its Atlantic Neuroscience Institute, which Becker said is a leader in spine and neuroscience medicine.

Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and Bristol-Myers-Squibb Children’s Hospital – Both Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and Bristol-Myers Squibb Children’s Hospital are “leading Rutgers University-affiliated health facilities,” Becker said. Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick is the flagship cancer hospital of the Rutgers Cancer Institute and is home to Bristol-Myers Squibb Children’s Hospital, which was named the nation’s best children’s hospital for 2023-24 by U.S. News & World Report and is the state’s second-best children’s hospital for 2024-25.

The Valley Hospital — The innovative design of this Paramus hospital has garnered national recognition, including Healthgrades’ America’s 100 Best Hospitals award for 2024 and an “A” patient safety grade from The Leapfrog Group, according to Becker’s. Valley Hospital has also been named one of the world’s best hospitals by Newsweek and recognized as one of the nation’s “most connected” hospitals by CHIME for 23 consecutive years.
