There were 15 deaths reported in the Upstate

ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) – Coroner’s offices across the Upstate are reporting storm-related deaths caused by Helene’s impact Friday morning.

ANDERSON COUNTY

The Anderson County coroner’s office said two people died from trees falling on their homes. One home is on West Whitner Street, the victim has been identified as 55-year-old Christine Schmeiske, and the other is on Williams Road at Whiten Road, the victim has been identified as 54-year-old Sandy Lee Fisher.

SPARTANBURG COUNTY

The Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office reported five deaths related to Friday’s storm.

The coroner identified one victim as Anna Maria Smith of Rainbow Circle in Inman. The coroner said a tree fell on her home while she was inside.

Officials said two were killed when a tree fell on them while they were sitting in a golf cart and another died while trying to cross a flooded road. Officials report another was swept away by the water. The coroner said the three victims were from Landrum.

Another victim died in Chesnee, officials said.

GREENWOOD COUNTY

Officials said one person died along Maxwell Avenue as a result of the storm Friday morning.

GREENVILLE COUNTY

Officials confirmed four deaths.

Officials said more information would be released as soon as possible.

LAURENS COUNTY

The coroner said three people died in Laurens County.

Officials said a tree fell on two people who were sitting in a car. They also said another person died after a tree fell on their mobile home.

As of 7 p.m., a total of 22 storm-related deaths have been reported in South Carolina.
