The whereabouts of Quds Force chief Esmail Qaani are reportedly unknown

The whereabouts of the commander of the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Brigadier General Esmail Qaani, are currently unknown New York Times Report citing Iranian media.

According to Israeli broadcaster N12 on Saturday, the Iranian brigadier general may have been injured in the Israeli attack on Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah’s presumed successor, Hashem Safieddine, in southern Beirut.

The NYT The report quoted local media as saying that officials in Iran do not yet have a clear answer as to what may have happened to the Quds Force chief.

Two days after Israel eliminated Nasrallah, Qaani was seen in Hezbollah’s Tehran offices. However, he was not present at Friday’s memorial ceremony for the Hezbollah chief led by Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Qaani in Beirut

According to the NYT A report citing three Iranian sources said Qaani traveled to Beirut to meet with Hezbollah officials amid Israeli attacks on the terrorist organization.

An IRGC member said so NYT Report that Iranian officials’ silence on the issue spread panic among IRGC members.

Later on Sunday, Army Radio reported, citing local Iranian reports, that Qaani would conduct an interview later in the day.

Despite it, The Jerusalem Post could no longer find such an interview later.

On Sunday, two Iranian security officials confirmed to Reuters that Qaani had not been heard from since last week.

One of the officials said Qaani was in Beirut’s southern suburbs, known as Dahiyeh, during an attack on Thursday in which senior Hezbollah official Hashem Safieddine was reportedly attacked. However, the official said he did not meet with Safieddine.

The official said Iran and Hezbollah have been unable to contact Qaani since then.

The second official also said Qaani traveled to Lebanon after Nasrallah’s assassination and that Iranian authorities had not been able to contact him since the attack on Safieddine, who was widely expected to be Hezbollah’s next chief.

Hezbollah has not yet commented on Safieddine.

The Quds Force, the foreign arm of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, monitors dealings with Tehran-allied terrorist militias across the Middle East, such as Hezbollah.

The commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, Brigadier General Abbas Nilforoushan, was killed along with Nasrallah in his bunker when it was hit by Israeli bombs on September 27.

On Monday, Reuters, citing Iranian state media, reported that the force’s deputy commander, Iraj Masjedi, said Qaani was in “good health.”

Qaani succeeded Qasem Soleimani after he was assassinated by the United States in 2020.
