Vampire Survivors’ latest update has a decent stack of new things to offer, with the main focus being five new Arcana cards that can be activated and give you strange new ways to play the game. The bulk of the update focuses on a new challenge level and the aforementioned new Arcanas – the Darkanas.
The Darkasso update includes nine new achievements, a new challenge level, a new relic, two new character skins, and five new Arcanas. Poncle notes that the five new Arcanas are “considered experimental and subject to change.”
The new character skins are a new type of “special skins” that change the appearance as well as the stats and weapons of the base character. They are rewards for completing the two adventure modes of the base game once – if you have already done that, just open the menu.
The Darkanas sound kind of hysterical: one makes you spit out exploding projectiles every time you take damage, and the amount of health you’ve regenerated during the run increases the projectiles’ damage. I love taking damage on purpose.
The last major update to Vampire Survivors was Operation Guns, a direct crossover with Contra that is as silly and fun as it sounds. It features rideable jetbikes.

Vampire Survivors is a silly, intentionally simple and absurd roguelike where you build combinations of silly weapons to mow down waves of stupid monsters, none of which are vampires. It was our best roguelike of 2022, receiving an 87% rating. Surely most of you have played it by now, since it only costs $5.
