The things I sell make people smile

PRAIRIEVILLE – Allison Woodfield wants people to smile when they enter their own backyard, which is why she started her business, Louisiana Casual Living, in Ascension Parish six years ago.

When she realized there was nothing like it in Ascension, Woodfield wanted to create a place where people could find quality furniture and accessories that would bring them joy.

“It just seemed like the perfect place for it,” she said UWK“My only goal is to provide people with things that improve their lifestyle.”

Woodfield opened Louisiana Casual Living in May 2018. The first location was near Cabela’s, but the current store is in the Heritage Crossing Center at Highway 30 and 44.

Although she is not originally from Louisiana, Ascension Parish is now her home. She wanted to use her business to help Ascension grow and felt that Ascension was a good central location for people living outside the parish.

Woodfield previously lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where her family ran a pool and deck business. She said she left Albuquerque, New Mexico, in 2004 and moved to Denham Springs. At the time, she was an account executive for a pool chemical company and traveled up and down the Gulf Coast visiting retailers. In December 2005, she left Louisiana to move to Atlanta and work in the company’s marketing department.

She returned to Louisiana in 2014, this time settling in Ascension Parish, and decided to branch out on her own and start Louisiana Casual Living.

In Albuquerque, Woodfield’s neighbors opened their pools in April and stopped using them in September because it got colder. However, Louisiana’s weather is much different, and Woodfield said that here, you can enjoy your patio and outdoor space almost year-round. She felt that Louisiana’s weather gave her a good opportunity to open the kind of business she wanted: outdoor living.

Instead of visiting a big-box retailer to look for outdoor decor, shoppers can head to a locally owned store that specializes in items for the home. Although the store offers many options for the outdoor patio, Woodfield says there are also plenty of items that are suitable for indoor use.

There is more to it than just furniture and umbrellas, she explained. The store wants to make people happy in their living spaces, and that is reflected in the high-quality furnishings and other goods on offer.

“The things I sell make people smile,” Woodfield said. “You never really know what you’re going to find here.”
