With the release of “Darkest Hour,” a passionate, orchestral and soulful ballad that marks his first new song in three years, Western North Carolina native Eric Church has once again taken his art to where his deepest, most heartfelt hearts lie feelings are.

To support his home region following last week’s devastating land disaster caused by Hurricane Helene, the artist will transfer all royalties from the release of his new release to the people of North Carolina.

The devastation caused by Hurricane Helene has claimed hundreds of lives and left millions of homes and businesses without power. Historic flooding caused by the hurricane led to water rescues in Florida, Georgia, North and South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia, after images and reports of drifting homes, collapsed bridges, mounting death tolls, missing person reports and dangerous roads dominated the news.

In a press release, Church states that “Darkest Hour” is dedicated to “unsung heroes” who “emerge when the world falls apart.”

Eric Church’s “Darkest Hour” highlights community concerns

“This is for the people who show up in the most difficult times, offer a hand when it is needed most, and stand firm when others cannot. Even in the darkest hour, they come running,” he says. “When the night is blackest, this is for those who hold the light, guide the lost, and pull us through.”

The song highlights Church and his team’s concern for their family members, friends and neighbors in need of help, through the lens of a song that, with its release, accelerates its expected release schedule by a quarter.

“It just didn’t feel right to wait to do this song. “Sometimes you give the songs their moment and sometimes they find their own moment,” the “Springsteen” singer adds.

“This song, ‘Darkest Hour,’ was the best way I could think of to help. We have helped with on-site interventions, but this is something that lasts beyond just immediate recovery. This is not a I hope “Darkest Hour” can continue to contribute for a long time. This song goes to my home, North Carolina, now and forever.”

Eric Church changes plans after Hurricane Helene

On September 29, Church posted on Instagram, “Anyone who knows anything about me knows what North Carolina, and specifically this area in the mountains, means to me personally and creatively,” noting the impact of the destruction and damage in the Region would result in him postponing a live SiriusXM Outsiders Radio show event scheduled for Sept. 30 at his six-story venue Chief’s in Nashville, Tennessee, to Nov. 19.

“To all families and first responders, you are in our prayers and we are doing everything we can to get you the help you need now,” Church added.

Also of note, Church has announced that his organization, Chief Cares, will support North Carolina and all affected states and communities, from Appalachia to the Gulf.
