The Patriots promoted former Vikings defensive tackle Jaquelin Roy to the 53-man roster

The New England Patriots host the Miami Dolphins with a full 53-man roster.

The organization announced the signing of defensive tackle Jaquelin Roy from the practice squad prior to Sunday’s game at Gillette Stadium. As an added measure, center Bryan Hudson and linebacker Ochaun Mathis were elevated for kickoff at 1 p.m. ET.

Roy, 23, entered the NFL with the Minnesota Vikings in the fifth round of the 2023 draft at No. 141 overall. The LSU product appeared in 12 games, including one start, during his rookie season. He recorded eight tackles in 96 snaps on defense and 59 snaps on special teams before being released at the roster deadline. The 6-foot-1, 250-pound defensive lineman joined the training squad in Foxborough in September after a training visit.

Hudson, 23, was signed to New England’s practice squad upon its creation in August after spending training camp with the Detroit Lions. The 6-foot-1, 250-pound undrafted rookie from Louisville and Virginia Tech surpassed 100 offensive snaps at center in the preseason. During his college career, he played in 60 games and made 41 starts between center, guard and tackle.

The 25-year-old Mathis entered the league with the Los Angeles Rams in the sixth round of the 2023 class at No. 250 overall. The 6-foot-1, 220-pound edge defender from TCU and Nebraska played eight games in his rookie year. He finished the game with two tackles and a quarterback hit while playing 74 snaps on defense and 19 snaps on special teams. Ahead of the roster cuts, he was released and signed with the Patriots’ practice squad in August.

Reinforcements also arrived on Saturday as the Patriots activated wide receiver Kendrick Bourne and safety Marte Mapu to the 53-man roster. Both spent September between physical incapacity and injured reserve before participating in limited practice.

Their return came after starting safety and defensive captain Jabrill Peppers was demoted due to a shoulder injury.

Sunday’s AFC East kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.
