The Patriots are signing CB Isaiah Bolden for a series of plays ahead of Sunday’s game against the 49ers

The Patriots are preparing for Sunday’s game with the 49ers by making a number of roster changes on Saturday.

New England placed CB Alex Austin (ankle) on injured reserve and signed CB Isaiah Bolden from the practice squad to the 53-man roster. The Patriots also signed DT Trysten Hill and TE Mitchell Wilcox from the practice squad.

Bolden is on track to make his NFL debut by adding size to a New England secondary that has faced a rotation limit in Austin and listed veteran cornerback Jonathan Jones (shoulder) as questionable on Friday. Jones will likely overcome his shoulder injury, but the Patriots are still undersized against a large group of 49ers receivers.

New England has relied on a cornerback trio that includes CB Christian Gonzalez at the top, Marcus Jones in the slot and the experienced Jones at field corner. This week, Gonzalez will likely face Niners star WR Brandon Aiyuk. However, breakout star Jauan Jennings poses a matchup problem for the Joneses. The 6-foot-3 receiver recorded 11 catches for 175 yards and three touchdowns last week while running routes from the slot (65) and out wide (68). ) ran. Jennings has good versatility and uses his size well to help out with hitches, exits, digs and posts.
