The New York Yankees beat the Chicago Cubs to continue their amazing and historic winning streak

The New York Yankees defeated the Chicago Cubs 2-0 at Wrigley Field on Saturday afternoon. It is New York’s second consecutive win without conceding a goal against the Cubs.

In that game, Clarke Schmidt started the game by pitching 4.1 scoreless innings. Usual starter Nestor Cortes came in as a reliever to pitch the final 4.1 innings and end the game, essentially giving manager Aaron Boone’s bullpen a completely off day.

With this win, the Yankees are now 82-60 this year. With 20 games left, the Yankees are assured of another successful season.

According to Sarah Langs of MLB.com, this continues an incredible streak in baseball history:

Most consecutive winning seasons, MLB history:

1926-64 Yankees: 39
1993-2024 Yankees: 32 *active
1968–85 Orioles: 18
1951–67 White Sox: 17
1967–82 Red Sox: 16
2008-2022 Cardinals: 15
1991-2005 Braves: 15
1939–1953 Cardinals: 15
1899-1913 Pirates: 15

Although the Yankees have not won a World Series since 2009, they have consistently been significant in the sport and have consistently earned playoff spots or chances at playoff spots.

This Yankees team isn’t perfect and there are certainly issues in the rotation and the back of the bullpen, but with Aaron Judge, Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Juan Soto, they are certainly a force on offense.

The Yankees and Cubs will play again on Sunday afternoon, with first pitch scheduled for 2:20 p.m. ET.

Gerrit Cole will start for New York. He has a 6-3 record and a 3.65 ERA this season. Former Yankee Jameson Taillon will be on the mound for the Cubs. He has a 9-8 record and a 3.66 ERA.
