The second season of “Monsters” is met with criticism on social media

The first season of “Monsters” dealt with the Jeffrey Dahmer murders and caused great controversy because it was initially viewed as disrespectful to the victims and their families. Now in its second season, the show is once again drawing criticism on social media. “Monsters” is based on the true story of brothers Lyle and Erik Menendez, who were 21 and 18 years old, respectively, when they murdered their parents Kitty Menendez and Jose Menendez on August 20, 1989.

Ryan Murphy defends Monsters

Executive producer Ryan Murphy defended his series by saying, “If you look at the show, I would say 60 to 65 percent of our show, in the scripts and in the film form, is about the abuse and what is alleged to have happened to them happened, turns.” reported by Greek Reporter. He further explained: “We are proceeding very carefully and giving them time in court and they talk openly about it,” he added. “We present the facts from their perspective.”

Erik Menendez questions the accuracy of Monsters

The imprisoned brothers did not see the show. Nevertheless, Erik made a statement about it through his wife Tammi Menendez. According to the publication, Erik’s statement was: “I believed that we had moved beyond the lies and ruinous character portrayals of Lyle and created a caricature of Lyle based on terrible and obvious lies that were rife in the series.” In Tammis Message explained that Erik believed the inaccurate representations were intentional. She stressed: “It is with a heavy heart that I say that Ryan Murphy cannot be so naive and inaccurate about the facts of our lives as to do this without malicious intent.”

More controversies about Monsters season 2

Many people are reportedly upset with how “Monsters” depicts sexual abuse. They believe the show does not accurately portray the trauma and misleads viewers about what really happened. “Monsters” follows the two brothers confessing to murdering their parents, admitting that they did so because of years of sexual abuse from their father and physical abuse from their mother.

The series also suggests that Lyle and Erik had an incestuous relationship. In Episode 2 of Monsters, brothers Erik and Lyle share a kiss. In the sixth episode, her mother catches them showering together.
